Earth science is an interdisciplinary research area concerned with the study of earth, water, and the air that envelops it. The evolution in technology has contributed to numerous changes that are now at the forefront of mitigating the harmful effects of climate change. In general, earth science is a broad spectrum of research that deals with the evolution of the earth and appropriately use this knowledge for the benefit of humankind. It mainly focuses on hydrologic, geologic, and atmospheric science. At present, researchers in earth science are more interested in earth system observation. The core idea is to obtain critical data on climate change, wildfires, global food production, extreme weather, and other natural hazards to address the most pressing questions that impact the changing planet. There is no doubt that earth-orbiting satellites and many other technological advancements have enabled scientists to view the clear picture of the planet earth and its climate on a large scale. Hence finding the more sustainable technologies for earth science and climate change is vital as it significantly empowers the process of earth monitoring and a careful analysis of the earth data revealing the signals of climate change.

Furthermore, we live in a critical time both for humanity and the entire planet. The need to seek more sustainable technologies to protect the environment and climate change is increasingly important. Technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and Remote Sensing play a prominent role in earth science and climate change mitigating the risks associated with it effectively. The appropriate implementation of these techniques reduces direct and indirect emission of greenhouse gases, increases energy efficiency, increases the use of renewable energy resources, eliminates waste, prevents pollution, and increases recycling. It creates awareness among every individual and encourages them to apply sustainability concepts in every aspect of their daily lives, which leads to a healthy environment, energy security, and environmentally sound operations. This special issue explores frontiers in new innovative and disruptive technologies for earth science and climate change. It briefly examines the vast potential of these technologies to help assess, mitigate, and adapt to the effects of climate change. Besides, leveraging these technologies to engineer innovative solutions to address climate change provides significant opportunities to accelerate efforts to achieve sustainable development goals. Most importantly, it takes urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts on a global scale. We invite you to submit the original and unpublished research works to this special issue.

Topics of interest include, but not limited to, the following:

● Big data to assess environmental impacts and their implication

● Trends in remote sensing and geographical information systems for earth science and climate change

Brief Introduction of Journal of Earth Science:

Journal of Earth Science (ISSN 1674-487X, Online ISSN 1867-111X) is issued bimonthly through China University of Geosciences, and published by Springer. The bimonthly English journal strives to cover all branches of geology and related technology in the exploration and utilization of earth resources, namely, geology, petrology, mineralogy, ore deposit geology, tectonics, paleontology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, geochemistry, geophysics, environmental sciences, etc. Submissions of original articles in English from scientists both in China and around the World on relevant subjects are welcome. All articles are reviewed by two or more referees for scholarly presentation, technical merit, quality of scientific content, and utility of the results for practicing geologists. The Editorial Committee reserves the final decision concerning the acceptance of a paper.

Articles should discuss new theories, methods and discoveries, recent achievements in the geosciences, as well as timely reviews on selected subjects. Articles should contain original data and facts which support the conclusions. Manuscripts should conform to the guidelines in the instructions for authors.

The Journal of Earth Science has an SCI Index of 2.907 (2020), and is also abstracted/indexed in: Ceramic Abstracts-World Ceramic Abstracts, Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), Composites Industry Abstracts, Computer and Information Systems Abstracts, Copper Data Center Database, Corrosion Abstracts, CSA Engineering Research Database, CSA High Technology Research Database with Aerospace, CSA Materials Research Database with METADEX, CSA Technology Research Database, CSA/ASCE Civil Engineering Abstracts, Earthquake Engineering Abstracts, Electronics and Communications Abstracts, Environmental Science and Pollution Management, Irrigation and Drainage Abstracts, Materials Business File-Steels Alerts, Mechanical and Transportation Engineering Abstracts, METADEX (Metals Abstracts), Petroleum Abstracts, Science Citation Index Expanded (Sci Search), SCOPUS, Soils and Fertilizers, Solid State and Superconductivity Abstracts, Water Resources Abstracts, Zoological Record.
